The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (English: Griffin) is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. It is powered by the Volvo RM12, and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are modified for NATO interoperability standards and to undertake in-flight refuelling.

Designed as a high-performance interceptor to replace the Viggen, the Saab JAS 39 Gripen was first flown on December 9th, 1988.

Product description ■ Swedish fourth generation fighter Gripen.
The Saab JAS39 Gripen is an aircraft that uses the canard, tailless Deltas developed as a successor to the Draken and Bigen.
The Swedish Air Force deploys its aircraft in air-raid shelters dug into the mountains and in disguised shelters in forests, and uses nearby highways as runways, so Gripen also has excellent STOL (short take-o ff and landing) capabilities.
JAS stands for multi-roll aircraft, an acronym for Jakt, Attack, and Spanning. The model aircraft belongs to the Swedish Air Force F7 Air Wing.
