F.A.A. Royal Navy Sea Hurricanes in "Operation Torch"

During Operation Torch in November 1942, the Fleet Air Arm (FAA) of the Royal Navy deployed approximately 40 Sea Hurricanes, armed with cannons, on escort carriers like HMS Avenger, Biter, and Dasher. These fighters were painted  with American star insignia to avoid friendly fire and attacks from the French, and they engaged Vichy French fighters, successfully shooting some down near Oran. The Sea Hurricanes proved effective in this critical role, despite the inherent disadvantages of their non-folding wing design, which made them less ideal for carrier operations than later aircraft like the Martlet.
