Review of his career in the Luftwaffe

In total, Rudel flew over two thousand sorties in almost all types of Ju 87 and about 400 in the Focke-Wulf 190 , a total of 2,530 combat missions [ 8 ]  , still a world record. He destroyed almost 2,000 ground targets (including 519 tanks ), but also counted among his victories a battleship, two cruisers and a destroyer as well as 9 certified aerial victories . He was shot down 32 times (behind enemy lines), but always managed to escape despite the reward of 100,000 rubles that Stalin himself had offered for his capture. The information Rudel collected during his career also served in the development of the Thunderbolt II , in service with the United States Air Force from the mid- 1970s , as a ground attack aircraft [ 9 ] .
